Definitions and characteristics of cookies
Cookies and similar technologies are pieces of information that websites send to or read on your devices during your first visit, to be retransmitted to the same sites upon subsequent visits. Thanks to these technologies, websites can remember actions and preferences (such as login data, chosen language, font size, and display settings), so they do not need to be re-entered on subsequent visits.
These technologies are used for computer authentication, session tracking, and storing information about users’ activities while accessing a service. They may also contain a unique identification code that tracks a user’s navigation within the site for statistical or advertising purposes.
There are different types of cookies that, depending on their characteristics and functions, may remain on your device for varying periods of time: “session cookies,” which are automatically deleted when you close the browser, and “persistent cookies,” which remain on your device for a predetermined period.
In accordance with applicable law, user consent is always required for the use of “technical cookies,” non-anonymized “analytical cookies,” and “profiling cookies,” such as those providing statistical analyses of website use or creating user profiles to deliver advertisements consistent with preferences expressed while browsing.
